Just when you think you are sick of the “grape” colorway, Nike decides to drop the Nike Dunk High SB Black Grape! This shoe is a send-up to the Air Jordan V Black Grape, complete with J5 style netting on the side.
The shoes come with black and teal laces.
For a shoe with aqua and teal accents, this pair is surprisingly versatile. The mostly black upper helps with this, as dark or very light outfits both work. I’d go with dark denim and a black top. You could also mix in a lighter top but I would complete the look with a dark colored hoodie or coat. You could also wear some light jeans with a light top and let the kicks pop.
Because of the plastic piece and the overuse of this colorway, many collectors immediately hated on the shoe. This is a shame because we really haven’t gotten suede like this since. Also, I doubt you’ll see a plastic piece like that on another pair of SB’s. If you want something from the teal box era that is unique and easy to wear with decent materials, I highly recommend these.
How Are The Materials?
While these aren’t silver box quality, the suede is very nice for a newer release. Although of a short grain, it is smooth and not some cheap sandpaper texture. The plastic piece on the side is what it is; I’m not sure the quality matters there. Overall if you like good materials, you will like these.
How Do They Fit?
The Nike Dunk High SB Black Grape fit true to size, and provide an acceptable level of comfort. A newer SB release like this is going to be stiff right out of the box, however the suede uppers help these along a quick break-in period. I found these to feel comfortable a lot faster than other newer SB’s I own. Definitely do not size down at all on these.
